Re: Dionne's Stage Show

Dionne performed at the Copacabana in 1968 and part of her nightclub show was the impersonation medley where she mimicked Pearl Bailey, Diana Ross and Marlene Dietrich. It was not part of her act in other venues and was developed for her appearance at the Copa. Dionne's stage shows in the 1960s cons...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

The Now tracks turned out to be produced very well and the Soundcloud site did not do them justice and I will be the first to tell you that I was wrong about those...they were much better than Karaoke...they weren't an embarrassment at all as originally feared. I don't believe the same for this proj...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

Interesting that the Sammy Cahn album actually charted in the Top 10 of the jazz charts and this was material that Dionne had not tackled before. I am not sure that Dionne has the name recognition or the pipes these days to have another international hit. It might happen but I'm not holding my breat...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

I don't recall nearly as much negativity about Now as Feels So Good. One or two good tracks does not an album make these days. The big criticism of Now was the return to the remakes but in the hands of Phil Ramone, it was good and the choice of returning to some lesser known Dionne Warwick hits was ...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

Dionne Warwick has a Centric program presently airing called "Being Dionne Warwick"...nice fluff piece but in the interview portion Dionne says she is disappearing for a while but coming back later with some new and exciting things. It's very cryptic and mysterious, it appears (LOL!). I tr...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

All I can think back to is Ron Isley's Here I Am which was superb! Dionne had been talking since around 1994 about working with Bacharach again to record some of the Bacharach gems she had never recorded. She wanted to record Mexican Divorce and mentioned that frequently along with several others bu...

Re: "What's up" with Dionne

Well, I have listened to these tracks and what a yawn is all I can say. Nothing here is of much interest. Dionne has once again mined her back catalog for the umpteenth time with nothing compelling (for the most part) to add to the originals. The production of some of these tunes is atrocious (for t...

Re: Dionne Sings Dionne (1998) Revisited

I agree that your perception of the project is interesting as well. I have never found the remakes to be of much interest, Including the "Now" project although Phil Ramone's production was first rate and there were a few tracks which were really good. I have listened to DSD perhaps a sum t...

Dionne Warwick Interviewed by Dan Rather

Dionne Warwick was recently interviewed by Dan Rather. The interview was carried on AXS-TV and was telecast last night. In the interview, Warwick was surprisingly candid and humble. On Whitney Houston's death she remarked on Rather's question whether Whitney Houston's death was the price of fame: &q...

Re: RIP Eydie Gorme

Eydie Gorme was a beautiful person inside and out and will be missed. When Dionne Warwick won a Grammy in 1969 for 'Do You Know the Way to San Jose" it was her friend Eydie who presented her with the award. She was truly one of a kind and once again we lose another entertainer from this era; an...

Re: WTWNN

There was never a demo recording of WTWNN that Dionne (or Gene Pitney) heard to my knowledge. She heard the original arrangment as pitched to Gene Pitney with incomplete lyric apparently not really fleshed out and probably played and sung by Burt and Dionne has stated that the tune had a western fee...

Re: A great voice silenced

Linda is a class act and truly among the most talented and versatile singers of all time. My favorite singer along with Dionne Warwick. Linda is a true legend who didn't sell herself out and I so admire her for that. True to her art and respectful of her own legacy until the end of her singing caree...

Re: The `74 Bacharach/Warwick recordings

That Burt was troubled is pretty evident. I too am astonished at Burt's cavalier attitude toward this work and toward the project. And, true to narcissism, he never offers specifics regarding anything. His broad, dramatic, dismissive "the magic is gone" is a typical narcissistic justificat...
