Re: 5 new songs by Burt Bacharach & Daniel Tashian

I see that 'Bells Of St. Augustine' is starting to get covered.

Re: Johnny Mandel 1925 - 2020

His score for the movie 'I Want To Live' from the late 50s was very jazzy and featured baritone sax virtuoso Gerry Mulligan.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I saw the movie 'Mirror Mask' last night and I was surprised when I heard this on the soundtrack:

Re: First released recording of 'Knowing When To Leave'

I think that if musician Frank P didn't like 'It's Turkey Lurkey Time' it was probably less to do with the quality of the song and more to do with the complexity of the score during the extended dance sequence of that number. Listening to Bambi McMormick's warm, mellifluous tones immediately made me...

Re: Maestro

I sincerely hope that the Maestro himself visits this forum and sees all these heartfelt messages. I stumbled upon this video message from him posted on YouTube on his birthday to his Japanese fans regarding the cancellation of the tour.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Nice one Blue, and although I suspect that most if not all would have recognised the tune, perhaps not everyone could have put a title to it. By the mid-70s Bacharach couldn't buy a hit either in the US or the UK so I should imagine he welcomed this little bit of success in the Netherlands with open...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

A Dutch friend asked me the other day if I was aware of a "very catchy" Bacharach tune that was a hit in her country in the mid-70s? Turns out that 'De Zwarte Kat' (The Black Cat) by Ciska Peters is an adaptation of a Bacharach and David song from many years before. https://m.youtube.com/w...

Re: How's everyone doing?

I'm sure we're all finding different ways in responding and coping with this unique situation and all those things we appreciated and perhaps took for granted before all this will be even more appreciated when all the restrictions are eventually lifted. Because it gets me out of the house as part of...

Re: The Only Laura Nyro Performance You`ll Ever Need

Blair, it seems ridiculous that the CD isn't being released in the US. Yes, she was a uniquely talented writer and performer in her prime but one I've always found a tough sell among my family and friends, none of whom can stand listening to her recordings, especially when she's singing at or near t...

The show Blair posted at the top of this thread has just been released on CD and I've just seen it on Amazon UK.

Re: 'Searching Wind'

I see that 'The Searching Wind' is credited to the writing team of Heyman and Young. I wonder what their reaction was when they first heard 'The Fool On The Hill'? They couldn't have sued Lennon and McCartney for plagiarism because I'm sure we'd have heard about it.

While we're on the subject of Dionne Warwick's albums from the middle 60s, I still own my LP copy of 'Here I Am' bought second-hand in the 70s. I remember thinking that this track was a bit of a mess the first time I played it and then believing it was the most exciting record I'd ever heard a coupl...

Thanks Barry. Yes, I appreciate it was a subject you were going to have to broach with a great deal of sensitivity with the lady. I look forward to the book's eventual publication.

Re: Burt to write foreword to new book

Anyway, I am going to speak with Anita tomorrow, and I will attempt to give you and the forum an answer. Yes, please do. Although I find it hard to believe, I suppose she might, just might, have spent the past fifty years in blissful ignorance of the error and you're the first person to raise the i...

Re: Burt to write foreword to new book

The 'Reflect On The Hits Of Bacharach and David' is a nice album but the sad thing about it is the amount of time Anita Kerr and her singers must have spent on their otherwise lovely a cappella version of 'A House Is Not A Home' to make the harmonies sound as excuisite as they do, only to mess-up th...
