Burt on Perth Radio
My apologies if this has already been posted. Burt recently spoke to Eoin Cameron, an ABC Radio presenter in Perth, via telephone. It's a good interview which can be heard at http://www.abc.net.au/perth/stories/s1945386.htm The presenter obviously knows a bit about Burt's music, having asked him abo...

Favourite Endings
Yes there are some endings to Burt's own instrumental versions that are simply sublime. My favourites are the endings of the following great pieces: 1. Pacific Coast Highway - The recurring string/horn melody with the F, G and F sharp piano notes repeating - wonderful! 2. Knowing When to Leave - Yes...

Burt Suffers Injury - Tour Down Under Affected
Some disappointing news for Down Under fans (myself included). Burt's forthcoming dates in Sydney have been postponed. And it looks like he can't do NZ now, but Dionne Warwick has stepped in and will do shows there instead. According to the NZSO website, he has broken his collarbone - most unpleasan...

Apologies for the cryptic nature of the above post. I was referring to the song "People".

Dionne's performance of the Styne/Merrill tune sounds as if it was arranged by Burt - very rich and imaginative and the muted trumpet is wonderful. Does anyone know if it was Burt's arrangement?
Babra Streisand's may be the definitive version, but Dionne's is my favourite.
Martyn.

Great News for Fans Down Under
This is really good news - thanks to Tom1234, Vincent and Mark for letting us all know the details. I believe the last time Burt performed in Australia with a full orchestra was in the early 70s. He was here in '98 with his core band. Our friends across the Tasman have done well this time. But perha...

Was Burt's Grammy Presentation Televised??
Hello, Congratulations to Burt! Just wondered if anyone saw Burt receive his Grammy during the Grammys telecast. Here in Australia won't see the awards until Friday evening. If I know that Burt's appearance as a recipient (or perhaps as a presenter too) is during the televised part of the show, I'll...

Burt and Ron on 'The Best of Soundstage'
Not sure if this has already been discussed but I recently bought a PAL-format DVD titled 'The Best of Soundstage' - Soundstage being a TV show on PBS in the USA. The DVD features single-song live performances by the likes of Michael McDonald and Fleetwood Mac, and includes Burt Bacharach and Ron Is...

Burt's and the HSO
Hi, I don't know if this contribution sheds any light but I remember when visiting the UK in July 1996, a concert featuring Burt Bacharach and the BBC Concert Orchestra was broadcast on BBC radio. It was either live or a very recent recording at the time. During the concert, Burt announced he was go...

First Tune
For me it was Burt's instrumental version of 'Nikki' which I first heard on his 'Portrait in Music' compilation album in 1973. The part of that tune that really grabbed me was the violin break. PIM became my favourite album at the time and those tunes are still among my favourites of his, especially...

Non-Bacharach Bacharach
Yes, I remember this topic coming up previously. I know I've mentioned this before but a couple of tracks from Scottish group The Pearlfishers' album: 'Across the Milky Way' sound as if they were ghostwritten by Burt - though they weren't. Pearlfishers' songwriter David Scott mentions Burt as a big ...
