Re: Random great songs not written by Burt.

The last song wasn't too bad. The songs should be the type that the average die hard Bacharach fan would appreciate but not neccassarily his work. The last couple posts were pushing it a bit. Don't murder my thread or I will commit suicide on it by posting 50 cent and Justin Bieber to finish it off.

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Yes Gillanddon, Helen Shapiro did record another Bacharach song, namely 'Keep Away From Other Girls' which he wrote with Bob Hilliard. Released as a single in '62 it got to No.40 in the UK charts. Songwriter Teddy Randazzo was often compared to Bacharach in the 60s and I've seen his most famous son...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Yes BtoB, Tony Hatch has never denied Bacharach's influence on his writing and arranging in the '60s. Apart from Les Reed, the other British songwriter who obviously came under Bacharach's spell was Chris Andrews. He wrote several of Sandie Shaw's hits, most of them with a distinct Bacharach flavou...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Les Reed and Barry Mason's 'If We Lived on Top of a Mountain' as recorded by Cleo Laine in 1968 is so indebted to Bacharach it's almost ludicrous and, of course, it just had to be a beautiful song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeU33pSsUUk Beautiful song. The resemblences is ridiculous and ludicro...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Shirley Bassey's version of the Leslie Bricusse song You and I owes a lot to Bacharach in the arrangement, I think you'll all agree! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm0cbirTj-Y&feature=PlayList&p=E6BFEB8E9499781C&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=11 Im so disgusted with how beaut...

Re: Random great songs not written by Burt.

Hi Geoff welcome to this forum. How about this: soaring melody and strings, Bacharachian major-7 chords (try 2.00 mins to 2.08), Jean Carn does Dexter Wansel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5qxMe-A5yU Thanks. Great song. I looked up Dexter Wansel and it seems he did alot of work with Gamble/Huff so...

Re: Random great songs not written by Burt.

I am also an avid fan of Laura Nyro. I discovered her around 2010. My dad who is a great music lover didn't know much about her so I take it she was an overlooked gem even back in her day. Such a shame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij8eBngOI-o Laura Nyro Emmie- This song melts me down. I usually l...

Random great songs not written by Burt.

Hey guys I just wanted to create a thread where I could share some great songs I like that are non-Bacharachian and encourage others to do the same. I find die hard Bacharach fans usually have high standards in musical taste. These songs are/can be random and in any genre or era just need to be good...

Re: Broken Record ?

Do you ever feel like some songwriters and artists just get it? The ones who do seem to just get it everytime. Thanks to you Hank I am now a huge Rotary Connection fan. Just perusing through random songs of theirs online so far I have not been dissapointed. Are you familiar with these? http://www.yo...

Yeah - a post of mine has been resurrected !! Thanks Geoff85 ! Didn't know that Charles Stephney worked with the Dells ...and The Love We Had Stays on My Mind is a classic. Someone help me out. 4:41-4:46 of Rainy Day in Centerville has the exact melody of one of Burt Bacharach's song. I can't figure it out and it is bugging me.

Re: Broken Record ?

Tony Hatch was the driving force behind Petula Clark's comeback in the mid-sixties and is responsible for her hits Don't Sleep in the Subway and Downtown among many others. Hatch was married to Jackie Trent. I wasn't around for the sixties, seventies, or and the first half of the eighties but man o...

Re: Broken Record ?

I know this thread is a couple years old but I just had to add to this post. I recently discovered Charles Stephney by listened to some of the Dell's song and googled Charles Stephney vs. Burt Bacharach because I know Bacharach fans have supreme taste when it comes to music and would be able to lead...
