Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
I'd been familiar with Christopher Cross's hit version of 'Arthur's Theme' for weeks in 1981 before I found out to my surprise that Bacharach had a composing credit for the song. I suppose the sterile 80's production and arrangement helped to disguise Bacharach's involvement and it's a shame that un...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
My favourite recent version of 'The Look of Love' is by Saskia & Serge and is from the 4-CD Box-set 'Simply the Songs of Burt Bacharach'. It illustrates perfectly how important it is to stick to Bacharach's original chord sequence for this classic song, especially for the first line of the choru...

Re: Ronan Keating in the Studio with Burt
As with any album of Bacharach songs, the role of the arranger is almost if not just as important as the vocalist(s). When I heard 'Something Big' from the album on the radio the other day, with an arrangement almost identical to Bacharach's own version from 'Living Together', it made me assume that...

Re: John Barry RIP
Around about the time of the John Barry Seven (see link below) his arrangements were starting to feature on recordings by the likes of Adam Faith. I know that he arranged Faith's 1960 recording of Bacharach & David's 'With Open Arms' and I'm just wondering how many other Bacharach songs he got t...

Re: Early Burt!
I'm lucky to have a 3rd or 4th generation DVD copy of the entire 40 minute show. Entitled 'The Bacharach Sound', it was recorded at Granada Studios in Manchester in 1965 and also featured Dusty Springfield (I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself & Wishin' & Hopin', the latter with the Mers...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
I've always loved the B&D song 'Only the Strong, Only the Brave' and Dionne Warwick's recording of it. The breezy arrangement is pure mid-60s Burt and it never fails to lift the spirits every time I hear it. Although I suspect that this might have been posted on the forum before in the dim dista...

Thelma Houston re-issue contains Bacharach song
Two Thelma Houston albums from the early 80s, 'Breakwater Cat' and 'Never Gonnna Be Another One', have just been re-issued and are available on Amazon as a 2 in 1 disc. The coupling features her version of 'Don't Make Me Over' and no less than five songs by Jimmy Webb from 'Breakwater Cat' which he ...

Re: Solomon Burke RIP
A true giant who crossed boundries with ease. His recent recording of Nick Lowe's 'The Other Side of the Coin' made me re-investigate that great songwriter. To my knowledge he never recorded a Bacharach song.

Yes, I've just checked and it's available used and unused on Amazon. Interesting album and it contains a very rare cover of 'Window Wishing'. Helen Reddy is the most famous name featured on the album.

Re: broadway singers album
The album was called 'The Burt Bacharach Album: Broadway Sings' and it was on the Varese Sarabande label. It should be available on Amazon, even if only second-hand.

For a moderator to leave a site at the mercy of spammers like this is frankly ludicrous.

Re: Two contrasting BB songs on 'SOTS'
I couldn't agree more, and also because Bob Hilliard wrote the lyrics.
How long before this thread, along with all the other genuine Bacharach orientated threads, is shunted down the forum list by all the spam? Where on earth is the moderator to this site?

Two contrasting BB songs on 'SOTS'
I can't think of two more contrasting 60's recordings of Bacharach songs than the New Christie Minstels' weird and wacky 'Three Wheels on my Wagon' and the Walker Brothers' dark and brooding 'Another Tear Falls', and they both featured on BBC Radio 2's 'Sounds of the 60s' this morning. I don't think...

Re: Rare (unless your Japanese) Bacharach
Sorry to be pedantic, Sara, but the solo instrument's actually a soprano sax. Serene Dominic made the same mistake in his Bacharach book. This Yahama & DX7 drenched track has echoes of the sort of thing David Foster was laying down under his own name in the 80s. Bacharach and Foster collaborated...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
I can't be bothered to wade through all the videos posted here to check if Marilyn Michaels' 'Don't Count the Days' has been posted here before, so here it is. I actually prefer the recording by Sandi and Salli because it's far less frantic, but, alas, it has yet to be posted on YouTube. Warning - a...
