Re: Best lyricists of all time?

I am leaning towards posting more modern contemporary artists because I know you guys will have the whole Lennon/Mcartney scene covered. I always thought Solange Knowles Beyonces little sister famed for attacking her husband Jay Z recently is a damn good songwriter and singer in her own right. This ...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Ill try to make this my last posting of the day but sometimes i cant help myself im a forum whore. Destinys Child version of the Beegees Emotions rivaled the original in my humble opinion and trust me i love me some disco and can hustle with the best of them. I just thought the rich blend of the thr...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

How could i have ever forgot this song Alicia Keys send me an angel. This was the song sang at Whitney Houstons funeral song by Ms Keys herself who both share Clive Davis as the champion of their careers. The cadence of the song is breathtaking. This song shows Alicia Keys virtuosic songwriting, pia...

Best lyricists of all time?

For me I am going to have to go with Jimmy Webb's vivid imagery(Magic Garden, Sunshower), Laura Nyro(entire career), and Mariah Carey who is often known more for her vocals and looks and not giving her due recognition as an amazing songwriters having written all her songs except for the remakes whic...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Continuing on a previous theme of modern music. Hear is a Mariah song that takes me to heaven everytime I hear. If you want to hear the living reincarnation of Minnie Ripperton you have to hear her song Bliss off her Rainbow album. She exercises alot of vocal restraint as there is very little beltin...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Okay, I`ll play: The most haunting melody for me over the course of forty-five years may be the coda Jimmy Webb composed and used twice for Thelma Houston`s Sunshower album. It appears at 2:18 at the end of Didn`t We and at 2:25 at the end of This Is Your Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4pDB...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

I think the epitome of beautiful haunting melodies of this generation is Coldplay. Every one of their songs are melancholy euphoria especially the Choruses. I would say if you cant appreciate these songs then it is safe to say you have lost your musical appreciation plasticity. https://www.youtube.c...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

There are certain arguments you just wont ever win. Mariah Careys sales at the record stores in the 90s has the final say. Keep in mind i grew up on music of my parents generation as well as being somewhat proficient in music theory and appreciation as well as piano playing. Some people are so wrapp...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

This song is insanely beautiful and deep. It shows the mixtures of the cultures that influenced her the deep grit of soul music and the sophistication of the romantic era composers(namely Chopin). This song was written and composed by her when she was only 17. I present Alicia Keys Butterflyz. Old t...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

The last song i posted was of the greatest vocalist ever recorded this next song is from the most beautiful vocalist/actress ever recorded or captured on film. I think anytime someone dies young it makes a beautiful song ever more haunting. The pianos sound like they are shedding tears as well. Some...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Def think this is a very haunting song from undoubtedly the best vocalist ever recorded. The movie was a flop and caused her to almost go crazy but I think this is one of her great forgotten songs. At 2:46 bone chilling note. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWoIO_hjvos I had my first summer job when...

Re: songs in the production style of other famous songwriter

Dear, I do not know who Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelak were inspired when composed "Day by Day" (from the movie "Godspell"), but there is much similarity with some songs composed by Burt Bacharach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3PjfBQjJT8&feature=kp Regards, Dja...
