Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for 'Fool Me Again' from 'Arthur The Album', one of the better Bacharach/Bayer Sager songs. Here's Nicolette Larson lip-synching to the record on TV in 1981.

Re: One of BB's most beautiful

I'd not heard it before either. The Flugal horn immediately gives it a Bacharach flavour, obviously intentional on Mr Hamlisch's part. Yes, one of BB's best for sure.

Re: Funny version of Wives and Lovers

Before the age of political correctness when singers, including many great female stars, had no qualms about performing this song. It's now rarely sung and when it is it's usually with heavy irony. Shame because it's undoubtedly one of BB's greatest tunes.

Funny version of Wives and Lovers

The great Pearl Bailey singing live on TV in '69. A natural comedienne, she plays off members of the audience beautifully here.

Re: Condoleezza Rice plays piano for Aretha Franklin

To my ears Dionne Warwick was at her vocal peak around '64-'69, before the slight huskiness in her voice started to appear and before she began to lose her top notes.

LOL. Now who would have predicted that this short video snippet would eventually lead to a 2000+ word article on menopause being posted!

Re: There is a German town called "Bacharach "!

I'm in Berlin for a couple of days and went into Dussmann (see above) this morning and found the grand total of three CDs under Bacharach's name, 'Simply the Songs', 'The Burt Bacharach Story' and 'At This time'. Not many but it's three more than I usually find in German music stores.

Re: What if BURT were british

This rather pointless topic has so far ignored one obvious conclusion: If BB had been born British there would have been no Burt Bacharach as we know and love him, for the obvious reason that his music is very urban American with its roots in be-bop jazz and RnB. If he'd been born in 1920's London h...

At long last, Andy Williams's wonderful recording of 'Wives and Lovers' is available on Youtube. I don't know who wrote the arrangement but it's stunning:

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Following up what Sara wrote about all those orchestral albums of Bacharach that proliferated from the late 60s onwards, I remember buying an LP by Frank Chacksfield in the mid-70s that apart from having tasteful arrangements of the hits introduced me to a couple of Bacharach tunes I was still unfam...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

If you listen to the start of the 18th Century Corporation's recording of 'This Guy's in Love with You' they change the extended chords, only to revert to them later. The controversial LP cover to 'Bacharach Baroque', typical of its time, can be seen via the link below with 'This Guy's in Love'. As ...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Anyone here own the LP 'Bacharach Baroque' by the 18th Century Corporation? Recorded in the late 60s in Germany, this has yet to be issued on CD & so the record is a bit of collectors' item. Yes, the concept behind the album would appear to be a bit gimmicky, but as you can hear from their rendi...

Jackie De Shannon's great version of 'A Lifetime of Loneliness', from American TV. Apologies if this has appeared here before.
