Re: News!

So...Burt`s essentially getting an award for having had successful back sugery and on the same night that Louie Anderson(!) is being recognised for creating a cartoon and being nothing like Rodney Dangerfield but getting an award in his name anyway.
You can`t make this sh-- up!

Re: How They Pick the Kennedy Center Honorees

This is as ridiculous as I`ve always maintained that it is. What kind of recognition is bestowed on Aaron Copland AND Oprah Winfrey? Art may be entertaining, but entertainment isn`t art. This award epitomises the blurring of the distinction. If America had produced a measurable fraction of the works...

Re: Wonderful video of DW doing Alfie last weekend in Amsterdam

I thought it was okay, but it brushed the jazz vocal realm where in this instance particularly I was reminded of and missed Carmen McRae.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTZ_h4obH-0&feature=related This clip has probably been posted somewhere among the 24 previous pages, but I`m not going to search through them all to confirm it. In any event, it`s Richard Harris with Burt from a `72 tv special. There`s the obligatory rendition of ...

Re: stephanie songs that dionne might have done...

I believe it has been confirmed here before that those songs were all written for Dionne just before the Lost Horizon fiasco broke. They were to comprise her second Warner`s album but remained unused until - somehow - Mills got a hold of them two or three years later.

Re: "Promises, Promises" to close in January

It will be a period piece like "No, No Nanette" in (when was it?) `70 or so, only with a better book. Workplace exploitation, "brown - noses", sexual jealousy are themes as old as Greek drama and Biblical myths, but it`s the music that will prompt the revivals. In fact, PP will p...

Re: Dionne's Chart Performance

Another factor that may skew the interpretation of chart success is that in the era we`re mostly concerned with, the Top Ten or Top Forty encompassed everything from the Yardbirds, Kinks, and Stones through Dionne et al into Percy Faith and Andy Williams. Younger people don`t recall the pre-segmenta...

I`m pretty sure that you`re referring to "The Beginning of Loneliness", a gem to be sure from the Windows of the World album.

Re: Kennedy Center Honorees

I`ve said this before, but since the subject keeps arising... I think that the metastasising of "awards" has cheapened beyond redemtion the value of any of them. At this point an acknowledgement by the KC (or the R&R Hall of Fame, or...or...or...) would be about as much of an honor as ...

You`re right! That is/was/may yet be it!
Go to Amazon UK and you may be placed on a notification list should this thing ever materialise.

Re: That Oft-delayed BB Anthology

Oddly enough, I don`t think this is it. There was something with very early material as well as rare `60s stuff that overlapped surprisingly little with other recent anthologies.
It was remarked upon here frequently that the release date was always being kicked up.

That Oft-delayed BB Anthology

Wasn`t there a new two- (or three-) disc anthology always just-about-to-be-released on Amazon UK?
I can`t recall the title and I`m too lazy to go back through the archives here; but does anyone know what became (or is to become) of it?

Re: You`ve Got It All Wrong...

That last would be "Let`s Pretend We`re Grown Up". Yeah, I have those and now with "You`ve Got..." I finally burned all this PP stuff (with the original cast recording) to one disc, something I should have done years ago. Thanks for the info, Steve. I thought it was for that revi...

Re: You`ve Got It All Wrong...

I know this was first performed in the early `90s revival. What I`m not sure of is whether it was written for that production or if it was a song cut from the original score or even one from the aborted movie version. Anyone?

Re: The "Life Walker" song...

Sorry, but this is the sort of thing Burt tossed off in his sleep during the 80s. It sounds like an out-take from the Night Shift soundtrack.
