Re: That old Dylan / "Raindrops..." story

In fact, Mr. Zimmerman recorded a double album of others` material back in(I believe )1970 , ironically entitled "Self Portrait". It included, among other atrocities, Bobby`s version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Yes, it sucked...supposedly on purpose to rid himself of the ado...

That old Dylan / "Raindrops..." story

Has it ever been confirmed or definitively laid to rest that Bob Dylan was the first to be offered "Raindrops..." for the Butch Cassidy ST? That Ray Stevens took a pass I can believe. That Burt would offer one of his songs to someone whose talent lay...well, outside the hitting of notes ma...

RE: Recent Spate of Obscurities

I tried posting this on the home page with ambiguous results, so I`ll try again here. There is, in addition to the three collections highlighted, the UK release: The First Book of Songs: 1954 - 1958 on the El / Cherry Red label. Sorry if this is this note`s third appearance on the forum but I appare...

Re: New Bacharach Early years CD

I had a hell of a time with it even after they supposedly fixed my account. Ultimately,I ordered the album via e-mail and am awaiting confirmation.
I thought it might have been my own security program that was screwing it up; I`m relieved to know I wasn`t the only one having difficulty.

Re: great link

Anyone know which file extender I need to actually play these things? I`m running Windows XP and it won`t open these files. Thanks.

Re: They Don`t Make Them Like They Used To

Not that it really matters, but I finally downloaded this song after having lost it in a crash. It`s one of the few of the collaborations w/Bayer-Sager (after their excellent mid-seventies album) that sounds like Burt had anything to do with. Can anyone suggest another equally satisfying from that p...

Re: Who are these People, mystery vocalist

It belatedly occurs to me that Donna and Josie each have a vocal range extending beyond an octave, thus perhaps eliminating the "mystery."

Re: Women - 1979

Burt underestimates Futures and Woman simply because they didn`t sell. As Elvis Costello pointed out< "The man`s all about hits, you know". Presumably, given his view of contemporary pop, he has come to better understand the accidental intersection of quality and popularity. Woman is still...

Re: Introduction to Burt and his music

Welcome!
A couple of treats are in store for you if you`ve not heard the mid-70s Stephanie Mills album,For the First Time and the near-contemporaneous Carole Bayer-Sager album, Sometimes Late at Night.
I don`t know if either is down-loadable somewhere or not, but they`re both worth seeking out.

They Don`t Make Them Like They Used To

Does anyone know of a download site still carrying this song?
It seems to have been yanked from Amazon as well as wal-mart; and there`s not even a You Tube video of it .
Thanks

Re: Who are these People, mystery vocalist

Vince will be able to clear this up definitively, but in the meantime I have a thought. Back in the early days of be-bop (and even rock) some performers were contractually unable to perform beyond their legally established labels (or those approved by their "handlers"). Thus, Charlie Parke...

Re: This year's Election

I should add that I would be astonished to learn that Burt had not also contributed to the Obama campaign. And maybe Nader`s as well.
I seem to recall that he spread his largesse over a wide political spectrum a few years ago as well.

Re: This year's Election

By Burt`s admission, he has not been the most politically involved (or astute) individual. He does ...other things. My guess is that he (and not he alone) has bought into the "independent" label that McCain and his handlers like to bandy about. I imagine, too, that McCain`s (mis-represented...

Just for the record, I am not the author of the admittedly odd piece; I just pointed it out for whatever modest interest it might be worth.
