When my Windows XP last crashed (as it does with some regularity - god bless Microsoft), I lost my only recording of "You`ve Got It All Wrong". Normally I burn rarities to avoid this precise consequence. Does anyone have an mp3 link to this anywhere? Or the ability to upload it here? Thank...

Re: Brian Wilson's Gershwin album

Perhaps my strongest response to this whole project is perplexity...as in "What the f%#$@!" I`d be interested to know just how lengthy these "fragments" of unfinished songs were. If it was the desire of the Gershwin estate to make these public, they could easily have published th...

Re: Brian Wilson's Gershwin album

I think it`s a ridiculous idea. I recall some discussion here a year or so back when the project was first announced. My position was/is that no one should be "completing" work left unfinished by another composer. If Brian Wilson wants to amuse his friends I suppose no one can stop him, bu...

Re: Brian Wilson's Gershwin album

Isthis album seiously being green-lighted?
Is it too late to drive a stake through its mis-begotten heart?

Re: Two contrasting BB songs on 'SOTS'

I just wanted to jump in here to defend Mark as well. As nice a publicity venue as it is for Burt`s music, I really think of it as a service for the (no more than) dozen or so of us who post here regularly (or irregularly). What most of us have learned and shared over the years certainly outweighs t...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

As far as I know, Dionne never recorded this. If she did, it was never released. I Iooked for the Lawrence Welk duo Sandi and Sally version on You Tube but it wasn`t there. There`s no other recording listed in Serene Dominic`s discography.

Yeah, I know I got the title wrong. It`s "Don`t Count the Days".

"How Many Days"

I somehow missed this song until today.
See,gang, this is what I miss! This is what makes me bitch about the newer stuff.
I know no one is going to be what he or she was half a century ago, but come on! Wake me up when Burt and this Sater guy produce something as inventive and delightful as this.

They Don`t Make Them Like They Used To

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf61NJKQXrQ I went through all kinds of ridiculous hell trying to download this song without actually buying a Kenny Rogers album. I`d finally get it and my computer would crash or the song would be somehow "unavailable" (although listed) on a particular site...

Re: interesting reviews of burt's albums

Interesting indeed, and generally astute and well informed (although the connection of Balance of Nature with ecology eludes me and I don`t know why Woman is described as "difficult"). The hint of another "greatesr hits" project a la the one with Ron Isley ( albeit this time with...

Re: A VERY SPECIAL EVENING IN SAN DIEGO

I haven`t seen Burt for a few years, but it seems of at least modest significance that the few compositions from At This Time once in the program have already been dropped from the repertoire. I wonder if it`sthat the policies of the Bush administration once so abhorrent to Burt have become acceptab...

Re: Dionne Warwick and a Duet partner (Scepter)

I never caught a C&W vibe from Green Grass or really any other compositions later than Story of My Life and Don`t You Believe It. The melodic sophistication behind California, Raindrops et al placed it outside of that category for me. But, BtoB, you`re right about the utter uniqueness of persona...

Close To You, Closer To Me

Roughly a decade ago, Burt conceded that he had "the wrong groove" when he originally arranged the song for Dionne and that "Richard came along and nailed it." Why, then, after the song was a hit for Carpenters, did he turn around and record it himself using nearly the precise co...

Re: BB and Karen Carpenter

A couple spontaneous thoughts... A&M had a weirdly conservative marketing concept for the duo. Richard usually hated the album covers the company imposed and was told to "learn to love it". The brother/sister emphasis provided an almost Lawrence Welk-like sexlessness that opposed the e...

And, of course, the title for knighthood would be Sir Burt.
