Forever Changes

You sold me, Mark - I just ordered the album. It's always great to learn of another treasure from the past. Long live reissues!

Thanks, Keith

Y'old Norristown cowpoke. Come to think of it, no one but me would dare to coin the term 'innumberable'.

BTW - are we related?

Two of America's Greatest Composers

Good to see another person has made these connections. I think "Merrily We Roll Along" is Sondheim's most atypical score, as well as being one of his most artistically successful, and it definitely hearkens back to that sort of brassy dynamism that made "Company" such a break-out...

Singers vs. Musicians

As a singer, I'm always amused by the common differentiation between "singer" and "musician" (as opposed to "instrumentalist"). In certain difficult professional situations I love to paraphrase Peter O'Toole in My Favorite Year: "I'm a singer, not a musician!"

Burt as Kennedy Center Honoree

I would love to see Burt so honored within the next couple of years. I can think of nothing more satisfying than seeing Elvis Costello singing "Who Are These People" on the KC opera house stage while a couple of individuals in the presidential box turned green.

Cover LPs

There is Johnny Matthis' double-LP set, one devoted to Burt Bacharach, the other to Burt Kaempfert.

Also, though not 100% covers per se, Ed Ames' LP "The Songs of Bacharach and David".

Bravo, Blair

I had the same thoughts myself - I think because some of the ATT orchestration reminded me of more satisfying elements of Isn't She Great. I congratulate you for your candor, apostatical or not! And, you should probably see the movie once, for two reasons: to see how the score fits in, and to see Na...

No webcast

Alas, those of us not lucky enough to have been in Britain at the time of the broadcast will apparently be unable to see it, as the BBC website says that it is not available "due to certain copyright restrictions". If it is rebroadcast or becomes available by some other means, I would be m...

Great ideas, all (except, sorry David, I just can't see "Hot Spell" ), but don't forget those excellent songs which were undoubtedly written for Dionne (even if not literally, then certainly conceptually) but ended up on Stephanie Mills' FOR THE FIRST TIME, including the title track...

Lonnie Sattin Demos

If anyone has or knows anywhere I might obtain copies of the "The Hurting Kind" and "Something Bad" I would appreciate hearing from you. I have a few significant rarities to offer in return. Thanks!

Re: Fave British male cover

["After The Fox" is such a brilliant record. It's got that icy, compressed "pop art" feeling that was felt at the end of the 1960's, beginning of the 70's. The chord voicings here are very witty and more sophisticated than they at first seem. And of course the song has leaps of t...
