Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Bacharach's "One Amazing Night" concert. I drove to NYC from Boston, sat in a nosebleed seat beyond a loudmouth who yammered throughout (annoying everyone around him),and then drove back to Boston the same night. Of course, it was all worth it a...

Re: Eliane Elias and Burt

Weirdly, I am watching her singing "Call Me" on YouTube at this very moment. The fact that the first show we saw was purely instrumental seems like she doesn't have a burning desire to sing at all at her performances. I do like her singing and am glad we went back to see her do it. And bos...

Eliane Elias and Burt

My wife and I went to see the fine Brazilian pianist/singer Eliane Elias at SFJazz last Thursday--and enjoyed ourselves so much we went back tonight (to see a different program--on Thursday she played but didn't sing). At the Thursday show, she began to play a number that I immediately and happily r...

If the April 1964 date is correct, this aired the month I was born.

Re: Thanks for everything.

Just learned that my cousin Frank Perowsky played on Reach Out (as well as in the orchestra for the original run of Promises Promises, which I already knew). Love in a Goldfish Bowl, a movie directed by my cousin Jack Sher and written by him and another cousin, Irene Kamp, had a Bacharach/David them...

Re: Thanks for everything.

I’m glad he lived. I’m glad he lived so long. I’m glad I saw him perform live about a dozen times. I’m glad I met him briefly and he was nice enough to sign my iPod. I’m glad that I will probably be discovering songs of his I’d never heard for the rest of my life.

Re: Burt in LA next month

It would have been great to see Burt and Herb perform together. I’m sorry for those at the event that it didn’t happen, but relieved I didn’t make the trek. Here’s hoping that Burt is well.

It was thin on the sort of details we would have liked, but I liked it a lot for the vintage footage--much of which I'd never seen.

Re: Burt in LA next month

I hope Burt will perform again at some point, if he wants to. The Hollywood Reporter says that Herb Alpert also won't perform, and he's still touring.

Re: Burt in LA next month

When my wife and I attended what turned out to be Carol Channing's final onstage appearance (I'm pretty sure) some years ago, they made a point of saying she would be talking but not singing. But she did sing quite a bit, albeit a cappella, and was wonderful.

Burt in LA next month

Last February, I had tickets to a tribute to A&M cofounder at LA's Music Center that was touted as including a performance by Burt. It was canceled on account of the pandemic. But now it's on for January 14: https://www.musiccenter.org/tickets-free-events/tmc-arts/live-at-the-music-center-concer...

1970 Burt Kraft Music Hall special

This has only been on YouTube for four months, and I’m not sure if it’s been shared here yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFcnP6UbZuc Guests are Joel Grey, Sacha Distel, and Dionne. As its title on YT indicates, this is a bad, glitchy recording—but I’m glad that someone who had a VCR taped it of...

Re: Burt in LA in February

Yes, sadly (but not surprisingly) they emailed me a few weeks ago to say they’d been postponed. Still hoping that they do happen and that Burt (and I) will be there.

Burt in LA in February

On February 11 and 12, LA’s Music Center is having a Jerry Moss tribute concert featuring Burt, Sergio Mendes, Herb Alpert, Sting, and Merry Clayton. As far as I know, these are Burt’s first scheduled performances since the pandemic, and the only ones currently scheduled, so I bought tickets and wil...

Bert Bacharach, Burt’s dad

I’m fascinated by the fact that Burt’s father, Bert Bacharach, was quite well-known in his day as a newspaper columnist who provided household tips—sort of the Heloise of his day. Here’s some video of him from a newsreel (spoiler: He doesn’t look or sound much like Burt): https://www.youtube.com/wat...
