Remember New York Animals?

Since we`re on the subject of suppressed songs, what became of these? I still maintain that those I heard were infinitely superior to the Gift of the Magi/Some Lovers stuff. I never warmed to much of any of it. And - lest we forget - there remains the score of the unproduced Sleeping Beauty (as Blue...

Re: Herb Alpert's next album includes new Bacharach-Costello composition

Yeah, and there was also a rumor that Dianne Krall was going to record them. If, indeed, the songs just didn`t measure up to standards they must have been genuinely god-awful considering some of what Bacharach has allowed to come out under his name in recent decades. (I`m thinking, but not exclusive...

Re: Herb Alpert's next album includes new Bacharach-Costello composition

I read somewhere a while back a statement by Declan to the effect that "There doesn`t need to be another album." I don`t know if he was drunk, depressed, or if it applied to his own subsequent compositions. Has he released anything over the past few years? And, anyway, my question stands: ...

Re: Keely Smith

Well, the Beatles pulled the wool over many pairs of eyes. As enjoyable as many of their albums were, they scarcely amounted to Art, and Keely was probably goaded by her label into recording that album. Now, do we want - on this forum - to discuss whether James Paul McCartney was murdered in late `6...

Re: Keely Smith

I noted her death with wistful sadness. I`m old enough to recall her television appearances with then-hubby Louis Prima. They were the obvious template for the next decade`s Sonny and Cher, as often cited. But Keely was so much wittier, smarter, sexier, and possessed of such a far superior voice tha...

Re: Bacharach & Costello benefit concert

I`m going out on a limb here and guessing that not a single new song will be performed.
Ron, are you shelling out for this? You can let us know.

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I`m guessing that DW`s contract w/Scepter stipulated that each release be a Bacharach/David production, if only formally. If BtoB is still around, I`m sure that he can shed more (authoritative) light. Addendum: I no longer have copies of albums like Magic of Believing, Soulful et. al., but I`d bet t...

Re: Walk on By

I don`t know.... I think Burt has always tried to oversell his jazz influences. It would be interesting to interview him on that subject in detail.
Personally, I don`t hear what you`re hearing in "Walk On By" but I doubt that I`m the best judge.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Much as I love jazz, I`ve never warmed to its arranged marriage with Bacharach material. For those with a taste for it, I don`t think this album has ever been posted here: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=blue+note+plays+Bacharach This is obviously a late-sixties compilation and therefor...

Re: Dionne Warwick Rarities Collection

Talk about scraping the barrel!
It`s too bad that she and Burt couldn`t put aside their differences long enough to make one final album.

Re: Smaller venues ilke the Blue Note

Someone has to say this: There is no-one on earth who hasn`t seen/heard Bacharach live by now if they ever wanted to do so. I would like him to stop the seemingly eternal greatest hits touring and return to L. A. to supervise the release of whatever quality music has been stashed in "the vault&...

Re: Some Lovers in London

Forty or fifty years ago, I would have agreed with you, Peter. The Top 40 in my day consisted of music far more diverse in nature than the then-current "British Invasion" and Motown hits. It was in that era, of course, when Burt had his greatest commercial success. Yet, two subsequent gene...

Re: Some Lovers in London

Apparently, "The Only Music..." is in this production, after all, but broken up by dialogue. A shame.
In addition, "Don`t Fuck With Me" is now the first song performed.

Re: Red Alert

The score has been available on Spotify for aeons; its sudden appearance on cd was what made me wonder if there was a commercial motivation.

Re: Red Alert

Does this mean that the movie (which I had assumed to have been buried long ago) is about to receive a wide release?
