Re: 'The Vampires of Camelon'

Blue, it sounds like a Bacharach pastiche. An item on BBC TV news a couple of days ago about an eco-friendly housing estate in Norwich winning an architecture award featured this instrumental piece from the 60s playing in the background for some inexplicable reason which despite being composed by w...

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July

Sadly Joss Stone's career has been on a downward trajectory for some years now but at least she's still touring and recording, unlike another British female singer with a distinctive voice who's fallen off the radar in recent years, Duffy, or as the media constantly referred to her, 'Welsh singer D...

Re: Need help trying to remember a song

It was great to see my music hero performing for the second time on this event. The last time, and for the first time that i saw him live, in 2009 he performe...

Re: João Gilberto 1931 - 2019

It's a shame that this beautiful genre has disappeared from (at least) from the American memory. It did have a large cult audience starting with the Jobim/Bonfa soundtrack for the surprise hit movie Black Orpheus in '59 and ran through the equally surprising success of Sergio Mendes and his variousl...

Re: João Gilberto 1931 - 2019

Singer, guitarist and composer João Gilberto was a pioneer of the bossa nova genre in the 1960s and sang the Portuguese lyrics on the hit version of 'The Girl From Ipanema'. I find his voice/guitar recording of another Jobim classic, 'Aguas de Marco', almost hypnotic. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=...
