Re: Herb Alpert's next album includes new Bacharach-Costello composition

Wasn’t there some talk that they were written with the intent of combining them with songs from “Painted from Memory” as a musical theatre work?

Re: Herb Alpert's next album includes new Bacharach-Costello composition

You're not kidding, Blair - I finally acquired this. It's heart wrenching in the way only Burt can write. Absolutely top-notch. Why can't Elvis and Burt record these languishing works???!

Re: On My Own: sublime or turkey

It's one of many songs from Burt's "dumbed down to be marketable" period. Many are truly sublime, but they're more hooks than fully-formed songs -
Burt restraining himself but unable not to be a genius! Another that just blows me away is "Take Good Care of You and Me".

Re: Dionne's first TV special to air on getTV

It killed me that GetTV is not on my cable lineup, and, although it is supposed to be available here over the air, I wasn't able to get the channel. I hope someone will be able to get the show up on Youtube. :(

Re: Best track from the "Isn't She Great?" Score

Since it came out, I've considered this soundtrack album a wonderful, ecstatically-met gift - it's like Burt and Hal (and Dionne) deftly reached back in time and pulled up a companion to "What's New, Pussycat", "Casino Royale" and "After the Fox" - scores with incompara...

Hal David 90th Birthday Celebration

Why does all of the good stuff have to be on the left coast?!

Re: The "Life Walker" song...

Burt's other collaborations with Krikorian were written or at least recorded from 1999 - 2002. SMAP was apparently Japan's contribution to the Boy Band era, and they were recording during those years; the album cited on youtube is from 2008, but appears to be a compilation. How Jerry Leiber came int...

Every year that passes begs more disbelief! Paul McCartney's time came before Burt's?? Come on!

Re: BB and Karen Carpenter

I can hear Karen singing "Here I Am" in my head and it is giving me chills. Wow. I'm also hearing "Whoever You Are, I Love You" quite distinctly, and the one strong emotional element she consistently and exquisitely employed - that slight, aching vocal hitch - would have been dev...

Hal David in ASCAP Program at Library of Congress

I was performing in a concert at the Library of Congress' Coolidge Auditorium on May 14 and happened to notice a rehearsal sheet taped to the wall backstage which referred to the following. I was horrified that I had missed the event, but it was apparently for an invited audience. If only video were...

Re: Promises `63

I generally loathe any attempt at time shifting for Broadway shows, but can at least respect a concept, however misguided it may be. This instance, however, is no concept - it is simply asinine. Promises, Promises is not strictly topical, but is a product of a VERY specific time, and the tumultuous ...

Re: New Bacharach song

What a lovely new piece. How does such endless invention and concurrent recognizability come to be (it's like seeing a Cezanne or Van Gogh and knowing instantly who the artist is)? And how lucky for us that in this case it is combined with such longevity. I just want to hear Dionne singing this song...

Larry Wilcox

Larry Wilcox is also responsible (or at least credited for) one of my favorite non-Bacharach tracks by Dionne - Jimmy Webb's "Didn't We". The arrangement, combined with Dionne's incomparable rendering, lift it from the "I ate it up and spit it out" genre in which it was previousl...
