Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Rare Hatch / Trent composition .....damn that Flugelhorn ! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bC9nEdIE00 'blue' Flugelhorns and French horns always make me think of Burt. The backing singers sound like Burts backing singers. A couple other Hatch/Trent compositions have been dead ringers and this i...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

Alot of Petula Clarks songs sound like Bacharach songs. While not a dead ringer for Big Bach the quirks of " The Cat in the window" remind me of a Burt composition especially in the string section. The ending however is a huge divergence from how Burt would end a song I had to listen to it...

Re: First recording of Loneliness Remembers What Happiness Forgets

"I was very conscious of people looking over my shoulder at Motown." - That's the quote I was remembering. Serene was too polite and/or wise to press Burt for more details when Burt was a bit vague, which is too bad. But Burt seems like a guy who lived a very full life, in and out of musi...

Re: First recording of Loneliness Remembers What Happiness Forgets

I'd always assumed that Dionne Warwick was the first to record 'Loneliness Remembers What Happiness Forgets', but I've now discovered courtesy of Second-Hand Songs that a singer from New Zealand called Allison Durbin cut it a year before in 1969 for her album 'Soft And Soulful'. I can't find any in...

Barbra Streisand singing a Richard Maltby and David Shire number Starting Here Starting Now. Sounds very similar to Wanting Things.

This song def has that bright Brill Building sound to it. Funny it actually sounds more like a Goffin/King song to me but there are some Burtesque approaches to the piano playing..

Re: Robert "Sad Eyes" John / 1968 "Anyone Who Had a Heart / What the World Needs" medley

As I was listening to this and not quite making it through to the bitter end I found myself starting to mentally compile a list of what I consider to be the worst cover versions of Bacharach songs. One that immediately sprang to mind was Eydie Gorme's 1970 recording of 'Knowing When To Leave'. Go a...

Interesting cover. The timelessness of Burt's and Hal's songwriting can stand the test of artists who are over zealous with the limits of of their range. I hear Freddie Mercury and Neil Sedaka except combined and magnified. I can see how it could be a bit much for some ppl but he had enough taste to...

Say a little prayer? I see what you did there. Alot of ethical questions will be raised for sure. The technology is here and it isnt going anywhere so you might as well squeeze the lemons into your glass. There is a freakshow element to alot of this but there will be great stuff as well. I assure yo...

New 60s Dionne songs with Burt and Hal

Could be on the way. Kinda. With the advent of artificial intelligence AI is at the point where it can actually clone a singers voice and mimic their inflections and vocal choices. Probably within a few months AI will be able to compose entire songs in the style of a particular composer and capture ...

Re: Carole King article and other tributes to Bacharach

And this came up on my Facebook feed - by Jimmy Webb - Jimmy on the loss of Burt Bacharach who passed on Feb 8, 2023: “Baby It’s You” by The Shirelles is one of the first songs I remember that Burt Bacharach composed. His music deeply affected me. I could hear his classical training in the cadences...

Re: Thanks for everything.

Its weird I knew this day would come eventually but its still a bit sad. Burt was magic. Im so grateful for him sharing his creativity and genius with the world. We were so fortunate to have had him so lucky. It is truly the end of an era
